Obituary of John Cash Whitten

John Cash (J.C.) Whitten, 94, of Idabel, passed from this life Friday, November 30, 2007 at Idabel. He was born June 30, 1913 at Ward Springs, Oklahoma the son of John R. and Melisa Read Whitten. He was a member of the Garvin Church of Christ. He served in the Beavers Bend Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) as a first sergeant during the depression, building roads and bridges in the area. J.C. retired as a foreman from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation in 1978 after 29 years of service. A wonderful and loving father, husband and grandfather, he enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, gardening and gatherings with family and friends. He was a very special man who will be missed by friends and family alike. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Melisa Whitten; his wife of 28 years, Mary Jo Womack Whitten; spouse of 8 years, Lois Reed Grant Whitten; brothers, Samuel Whitten, Charley Whitten, Carley Whitten, Floyd Whitten; sisters, Lotty Whitten, Stella Hatcher, Luevina Hallum, Della Turnage and Ruth Box. J.C. is survived by his spouse of 26 years, Lillian Whitten; children and their spouses, JoAnn and Roger Crank of Garvin, Treva and Wayne Clardy of Idabel, John and Teresa Whitten of McAlester; step-son, Kenny and Brenda Simpson of Durant; grandchildren, Rene McDaniel, Rhonda George, Kevin Clardy all of Idabel, Dwight Clardy of Redland, Steven Clardy of Garvin, Dustin Clardy of Smithville, Jared Whitten of McAlester; step-granddaughter Marsie Simpson; 10 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-step-grandchild; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
