Obituary of James Luther Dodd Jr.
Rev. James Luther Dodd, Jr. was born April 4, 1932 in Antlers, OK as first son of James Luther Dodd, Sr. and Ethel Viola (Reed) Dodd. Rev. Dodd passed to his heavenly reward on September 17, 2019 in Heavener, OK. He married Juanita Louise Holmes Dodd on September 21, 1948 in Morris, OK, 71 years from his celebration service.
Rev. Dodd lived in Broken Bow, OK for 25 years where he pastored Lighthouse Christian Center. He loved visiting and helping his Church people and spending time with his grandchildren. An animal lover, he had horses, chickens, donkeys and emus at one time or another. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, taking walks, reading and making people laugh with his cut-up personality.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers, Grady Clarence Reed, Virgil Willie Dodd; sisters Loretta and Rachel, and grandchildren, Jill Dodd, Melody Ping and Madison Baily Hilborn Holmes Dodd.
Rev. Dodd is survived by his children; Rev. James Lemuel Dodd III and Susan (August 9, 1950 Morris, OK); Jerry Lee Dodd CPA, JD and Phena (November 16, 1953 Bakersfield, CA while pastoring Cottonwood Road A/G); Rev. Juree Louise Ping and Mike (December 25, 1955, Ventura, CA pastoring at Piru, CA) and Jeffrey Lynn Dodd and Sue (August 10, 1959, Bakersfield, CA pastoring at Hilltop A/G); grandchildren, James L. Dodd IV (Stephanie)Thomasville, NC, Judith Perdue (Lance) Houston, TX, Jody McDaniel (Brent) Dallas, TX. Kimberly Moran (Patrick) Litchfield Park, AZ, Kristy Dodd Malvern, AR, Julie McGee (David) El Dorado, AR, Timothy Dodd Malvern, AR, Andrew Dodd, Springdale, AR, Matthew Dodd Bryant, AR, Lindsey Weaver (Todd) Batesville, AR, Allison McGhee (Steven) Conway, AR, Willie Daniel Dodd, Fayetteville, AR, Casey Dodd Conway, AR, Kathleen Dodd Dallas, TX, Michael Ping Salem, OH, Adam Ping (Ashley) Cincinnati, OH , Josh Dodd (Tammy) Ft. Smith, AR, Daney Strickland Howe, OK, Danielle Porter High Point, NC, Erica Shae Dodd Howe, OK, and Elana Brooke Dodd Howe, OK; 36 great grandchildren; surviving brothers are Nathanial Eugene Dodd (Nipoma, CA), David Dodd (Stigler, OK), and Ralph Glenn Dodd (Lawton, OK) and sisters, Gerri Geraldine Elizabeth Hale (Hamilton, MT), Jo Anna Parker (Colorado Springs, CO) and Linda Covert (Ventura, CA).
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the Howe Assembly of God in Howe, OK with Rev. James Dodd III officiating. Interment will follow at the Howe Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at the funeral home and beginning at 12:00 pm prior to the service on Saturday at the Church.
