Obituary of Joe D. McCown

Joe Dick McCown, 87, of Idabel, passed away Friday, October 19, 2007 at Idabel. He was born February 26, 1920 in DeKalb, Texas. On February 5, 1945 he married Joyce Faye Jones. Joe was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He served in WWII aboard the USS Gulfqueen and the USS David Balaska. While serving on the Gulfqueen, the ship was torpedoed and Joe was injured. He enjoyed woodworking and playing his guitar. Joe loved spending time with his grandchildren and had a very special dog Bennie. He was of the Baptist Faith, and was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County. He was preceded in death by his father John Trimble; mother Alice McCown; step-father, Abren McCown; wife, Joyce McCown; granddaughter, Kimberly McCown; brothers, Johnny Trimble, Harland Trimble, Frank McCown, Delmer McCown; and sisters Minnie Walden and Martha Farley. Joe is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Joe Dewayne and Cathy McCown, Lyndell and Brenda McCown all of Idabel; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Don Neal of Idabel, and Brenda and Bob Gamble of Rufe; grandchildren, Stephen McCown, Melissa Loving, Charla Sheets, Chrystal McCown, Jeff McCown, Keri Neal, Joe Don Neal, Ann Gragg, Cindy Edmondson; great-grandchildren, Stormy Sheets, Dalton Sheets, Jason Coffman, Larry Gragg, Brandon Gragg, Cody Edmondson, Ashley Edmondson, Brent Gragg; great-great-grandchildren, Blake Coffman, Jayce Coffman; a brother, James McCown of Idabel; sisters, Verna DeBerry of Idabel, Lona Yeargin of Edmond, OK; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
