Obituary of Joe Brown
Joe Van Brown, age 90 former Idabel Fire Chief passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Plano, TX. He was born on January 29, 1929 at Pampa, TX. Joe married Juanita Diggs in DeQueen, AR on December 21, 1948.
Joe was a City of Idabel Firefighter for over 30 years retiring as the Idabel Fire Chief. He also owned and operated Brown and Dooley Appliance Repair for several years. In his spare time he was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Many years ago Joe was a member of a Gospel Group that performed on the radio when the first radio station came to Idabel, among the members were Joe Claridy, George Hill, Buddy Bullock, Bill Holt and Jimmy Lee King.
He was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, James and Nodine Brown; his mother and step-father, Minnie and Louie Johnson; and 2 brothers, Buster Brown and Harold Brown.
Joe is survived by his wife, Juanita Brown of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Brown of Mesquite, TX, Jessie D Brown and Gina of Denton, TX and Robert D Brown and Shelley of Paris, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie Ernest and Tom of Horatio, AR; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 pm on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at the White Family Chapel in Idabel, OK with Dr Andy Bowman officiating. Interment will follow at the Canfield Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, February 25, 2019 at the funeral home.
