Obituary of Burton Barr

Burton Barr, age 91 of Valliant, OK passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2018 at Hugo, OK. He was born on March 16, 1927 in Felt, OK, the son of Charles K Barr and Mary Elizabeth Langdon Barr.

Burton was a WWII veteran having served in the US Army in the Pacific. After getting out of the Army he went back to school and received his bachelors in mathematics from SEOSU at Durant and later his masters and certificate of administration from East Texas State University.

Burton spent over 40 years as a teacher and school administrator. He was a former principal and superintendent at Valliant and last worked at Idabel before retiring.

He was a longtime member of the Methodist Church in Valliant of which he joined at the age of 15. Burton loved his Lord but was a quiet man concerning his faith. He was a member of the Valliant Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd Degree Mason. Burton enjoyed his retirement years gardening, fishing, hunting and visiting with friends and family. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Zilpha Rae Barr; a son-in-law, Darrell Pickens; a special nephew, Gene Wyatt; and 9 brothers and sisters.

Burton is survived by daughters, Connie Compton and Ronnie of Valliant, OK and Karen Pickens of Valliant, OK; faithful companion, Burnice Tuck of Idabel, OK; grandchildren, Kelly Compton of Valliant, OK and Kaci Compton Roberts and Jason of Valliant, OK; great-grandchildren, Raelan Bailey, Jaydan Bailey, Shali Compton and Brayden Roberts; a great-great-grandchild, Faithlynn Bailey; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the funeral home..

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at the Valliant Methodist Church  in Valliant, OK with Bro. Bob Stuart officiating. Interment will follow at the Valliant Cemetery.
