William Wilson

Obituary of William Lynn Wilson

William Lynn (Bill) Wilson, age 80, died peacefully at his home in Idabel on May 23, 2018 after an extensive battle with cancer. He was born on November 4, 1937, in Pueblo, CO, the son of Leslie Oren and Roxie Dee (Hunter) Wilson.

Due to a grandparent’s illness, the Wilsons moved from Colorado to Northwest Oklahoma when Bill was six months old.  During his school years, he was a band and FFA member, enjoyed carpentry-shop classes and played football for the Shattuck Indian Team.  In the summertime, he helped with the wheat harvest as it made its way from Oklahoma to the Canadian border.

Bill and Pat (Doss) met when both attended college at Central State (now University of Central Oklahoma) in Edmond.  They were united in marriage on August 22, 1959, at the Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.

Bill was employed at Ford Motor Company, first in Oklahoma City, then in Lenexa, Kansas, for 32 years.  He served as Cub Scoutmaster and coached Little League Baseball teams for 15 years as his boys were growing up.  He was a member of the Ford employee bowling team in Kansas, and, after retirement, with a team at Idabel Collier Bowl, as well as enjoyment from camping, fishing and traveling. Bill liked watching most TV sports and, especially, the Oklahoma Sooners and Dallas Cowboy football games.

Bill and Pat moved to McCurtain County when he retired from Ford on February 1, 1994.  He worked for several years with Lancaster Farms until ill health intervened. He was a member of the Idabel First United Methodist Church and the Young Men’s Sunday School Class. Bill had a quiet, but deep abiding faith in his Heavenly Father and in his fellow man.  His laughter was most infectious as was his smile and gentle personality. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Dee; a brother, Larry, and a son, Steven Loren.

Bill is survived by his wife, Pat, of the home; son, Brian and daughter-in-law, Gina, of Kansas City, KS; son, Chris, and daughter-in-law, Virginia, of Olathe, KS; daughter-in-law, Pam, of Gardner, KS; seven grandchildren, Jen Clarke (Brian), Lenexa, KS; Ashley Thompson (Ryan), Blue Springs, MO; Christina Wilson, Beaver Dam, WI; Matt Wilson (Jeannine) and Alex Wilson, Olathe, KS; Noah Wilson and Marc Wilson, Gardner, KS; three great-grandchildren, Leslie Clarke, Reece Thompson and Riley Clarke; sister, Mary Kuehny, and brother-in-law, Art, of Lahoma, OK; sister-in-law, Elaine Wilson of Oklahoma City; in addition to cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and fellow church members.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, May 25, 2018 at the funeral home.
