Obituary of LaVerne McCain

          LaVerne McCain, age 90 of Idabel, OK passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2018 in Paris, TX. She was born on March 8, 1927 in Boswell, OK, the daughter of Ray and Maggie Lorene Dancer Wickersham. LaVerne was a 1945 graduate of Boswell High School. She married Doyle McCain on May 10, 1945.

          For many years LaVerne owned and operated several clothing alteration shops in Idabel. She was an extremely talented seamstress and became friends with many of her customers. Sewing was her passion and she loved helping people , she helped provide uniforms and outfits for several groups in local schools including the Idabel High School Pop Time Singers. LaVerne was a member of the First Baptist Church in Idabel and was a lifetime resident of the area.

          She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Doyle McCain in 1991; sisters, June Jackman and Nell Maxwell; and brothers, Leon Wickersham and Charles Ray Wickersham.

          LaVerne is survived by daughters, Diane McCain Wake and Linda Loveday and husband, Al, all of Idabel, OK; grandchildren, Toby Wake and wife, Nealie, Amye Larsen and husband, J.R. and Chris Plant and wife, Jessie; great-grandchildren,  McCain Wake, Lindee Wake, Sadie Larsen, Austin Plant, Holden Plant, and Mason Plant; a brother, Dude Wickersham of Hugo, OK; and a sister, Goldie Jewell of Vancouver, WA; a special friend, Lamontdria Scales; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

          Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the White Family Chapel with Bro Andy Bowman officiating.
