Obituary of Larry Powell

Larry Powell, age 65 of Millerton passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at Texarkana, TX. He was born on December 16, 1944 in Little Rock, AR. Larry married Carolyn Lauraetta Hopper on May 23, 1964 at the Knightens Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Midway, AR. Larry was a hard worker and a great provider for his family. As a result of his hard work he was able to operate several tire shops and a floor maintenance and janitorial service. He found endless joy in being outdoors and raising his animals. Larry loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the rest of his family. He was affiliated with the Central Baptist Church in Idabel and was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County. He was preceded in death by his father, Talmage Powell; mother and step-father, Laura May Ward Kendrick and Abraham Kendrick; daughters, Carol Denise Powell Masters and Windy Waynette Powell Haley. Larry is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carolyn Powell of Millerton; daughters, Veronica Renia Powell Khan and Laura Jean Powell Parsons; a son, Joseph Walter Hawthorne III; brothers, Dennis Kendrick, Reggie Kendrick, Ricky Kendrick and Jeffrey Kendrick; a sister, Sylvia Kendrick Torres; grandchildren Cyndi Leigh Haley, Shawn Lee Haley, Jared Joe Haley, Melody Denise Dollar McDaniel, Brandon Keith Dollar, Toni Renae Powell, Jesalee O’Neal Parsons, Matthew Amador Rodriguez Khan and Caroline Asecione Rodriguez Khan; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 12, 2010 at the Central Baptist Church in Idabel with Bro. Greg Matlock officiating. Interment will follow at Glover Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the funeral home.
