Obituary of LaVesta E. Green

LaVesta Green, age 90 of Texarkana, TX passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Texarkana, TX. She was born May 16, 1920 in McAlester, OK, the daughter of Louis K. and Mamie Webb Poteet. LaVesta graduated from McAlester High School. She worked as a telephone operator in McAlester in the 1940’s. In the early 1950’s she moved to Texarkana, TX and began working as a PBX operator. She later went to work at the Texarkana National Bank where she stayed until retiring. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Idabel. LaVesta enjoyed crocheting and working word search puzzles. She allowed herself one Coca Cola a day and was a collector of Coke memorabilia. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James R. Green in 1979; a brother, Elmer Poteet and wife Evelyn; and a nephew, Bob Poteet. LaVesta is survived by her nephew, Bruce Poteet and wife Pat of Idabel; great nieces and nephews, Tammy and Steve Carter of Texarkana, TX, Debbie McGee of Idabel, Bobbie and Chuck Worsham of McKinney, TX, Kim and Jeff Crew of Frisco, TX and Chip Poteet of San Antonio, TX; many great-great nieces and nephews and other relatives. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the First Christian Church in Idabel with Rev. Paul Redden officiating. Graveside services will follow that afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at the Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester, OK. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 3, 2010 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the First Christian Church, 401 S.E.
