Obituary of Lillian J. Singleton

Lillian Singleton, age 97 of Idabel, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2010 at Idabel. She was born October 29, 1912 at Marietta, Oklahoma the daughter of Sanford and Julia Porter Estes. A longtime educator of the area, Lillian graduated Southeastern at Ada and worker her way through college at Oklahoma State University receiving her Master’s Degree. She taught 3rd grade for 40 years, teaching her students, their children and often their grandchildren. She was awarded Teacher of the Year in 1976. Along with educating students at school, Lillian taught Sunday School at the First Presbyterian Church. She became very active in the church when she moved to Idabel in 1945 and remained active until her health declined. Lillian was an avid golfer and a member of the Idabel Country Club. She was preceded in death by parents; husband of 45 years, Eleck Singleton; and all 12 of her brothers and sisters. Lillian is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 25, 2010 at the White Family Chapel in Idabel with the Rev. Oscar Wilkie officiating. Interment will follow in Canfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at the funeral home.
