Matevier Thompson

Obituary of Matevier Thompson

Matevier Thompson was born on May 12, 2001 in Tulsa, OK. Matevier and Sarah came to Wright City to live with their grandparents William and Quay Myers as their legal guardians. When they both became deceased, their Aunt Greta Myers took over the role as their full time guardian. Mat was at home when he passed away on January 24, 2019 at the age of 17 with his loving Aunt Greta and sister Sarah at his bedside.

Greta raised and loved Matevier and Sarah as her children, tried her best to give them a good life. Matevier had no needs nor wants, save for a better physical life. Sarah doted on her brother and gave him the best care that she could. Mat had severe CP, severe seizure disorder, he was spastic quadriplegic. He was fed by a GJ Tube and had several other health issues that required different medications around the clock. He needed 24/7 around the clock care. It was a very tiring job, many sleepless nights. He was confined at home, but at the same time there was also much joy and laughter. We would say our days and evenings were determined by how he woke up. If he was laughing or even smiling, we knew our day would be good. Mat was a medically complex child, all of his Medical Specialists were at OU Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK. He had one in Tulsa he responded to with laughter and smiles. I would not trade my time nor experience I had raising Mat and I borrow this quote “he did not grow under my heart, but in it”.

Bubba loved listening to music so we played a variety for him; he watched movies with us, loved being read to as well and his Book Library was growing. He loved hearing his sister, Sarah sing songs to him as she fed him his medications. His favorite activities to do while taking long road trips on doctor appointments were to take pictures. He also liked it when she would push him around in his wheelchair. They liked to whisper secrets to each other. Mat loved all animals, especially little kittens.

Mat was survived by his Aunt/Legal Guardian, Greta Myers of the home; sister, Sarah Williston of the home; uncle, William Myers, Jr. of Durant, OK; mother, Phyllis Williston of Oklahoma City, OK; sister, Wendy Gaines and family of Oklahoma City, OK; brother, Thomas Williston of Idabel, OK and a host of friends, other aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Quay Myers of Wright City, OK and maternal grandparents, Robert and Susie Thompson of Wright City, OK.
