Obituary of Harold Davis

Harold "Hal" Davis, age 68 longtime Idabel police officer passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at his home in Idabel, OK. He was born on January 20, 1950 in Matador, TX, the son of Buford Davis and Fannie Short Davis Arnold. Hal was a 1968 graduate of Idabel Gray High School. He married Meryl Mills on November 22, 1977 in Broken Bow, OK.

Hal joined the US Army right out of high school and was sent to Viet Nam where he served with honor receiving a purple heart. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division for the majority of his 20 year career before retiring in 1988. After moving back to Idabel he went to work for the Idabel Police Department. He spent the next 25 years serving Idabel before retiring as Asst. Police Chief. 

He was an avid Idabel Warrior and OU Sooner fan. Hal was a fixture at Warrior games supporting his hometown team. He enjoyed golfing with his many friends at the Idabel Country Club. Hal was of the Baptist Faith and was proud to call Idabel his lifetime home. 

Hal was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend. A very loyal man with a great sense of humor. He loved his family, his hometown and his many friends and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth Davis and Woody Arnold; and a sister-in-law, Bernadette Davis.

Hal is survived by his wife, Meryl Davis of the home; sons, Jaison Davis and Danny Davis both of Idabel, OK; brothers and sister-in-law, Earl Davis and Evelyn Ann of Idabel, OK and Billy Davis of Stroud, OK; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the funeral home.

A Celebration of Life Service with military honors will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Idabel, OK.
